DC-Powered PEPS® Controller
For Semi Equipment Applications

spacer

Some semi equipment suppliers have excluded AC power lines from their tool frames, requiring PEPS to be driven with DC voltage to meet power requirements.

The PEPS controller design is DC-power compatible without any internal modification needed (bipolar DC voltage of ±15V, 0.5A each). Power can be connected to PEPS through the existing DB-25F socket on the controller. Do not connect the AC cord.

PEPS

The pins are:
Common (GND) pin25
+15V pin12
-15V pin13

If bipolar voltage ±15V is available:

Make a cable with DB-25M per the pin-out above, and PEPS becomes DC powered. See the PEPS User Manual for the complete pin-out specification.

If ±15V is not available, there are two options:

1) If AC power is available: Use a commercial1ly available AC-to-DC brick converter with ±15V outputs (such as ASTRODYNE SPU45-209, $62), which can be plugged into the wall and make a custom cable to DB-25M. The cable can be relatively long – up to 15 feet.

2) If only DC 24V is available: Make a small board with DC-to-DC converter 24V to ±15V, 0.66A. The DC-to-DC converter is similar to ASTRODYNE ASD20-12D15 ($42), 24V plug and DB-25M. The board can be plugged directly into the DB-25F socket on the PEPS controller.
